The Rangers have placed Jose Urena on the injured list
Texas Rangers pitcher Jose Urena has been placed on the 15 day injured list with shoulder soreness, the team announced today. To take his place on the active roster the, Rangers have recalled pitcher Gerson Garabito from AAA Round Rock. In addition, the Rangers have announced that pitcher Chase Anderson, who was designated for assignment when the Rangers added Kumar Rocker to the roster, has cleared waivers and elected free agency.
Given that the regular season ends in two weeks, Urena’s season is now over. He ends the year with a 3.80 ERA and 4.62 FIP in 109 innings over nine starts and 24 relief appearances. Its the most major league innings Urena has had since 2018.
Garabito was optioned yesterday to make room for Max Scherzer on the active roster. With Urena going on the injured list, he has now been immediately recalled, though he could end up going down if Josh Sborz or Jacob Latz get activated from the injured list.
