Detroit’s Tarik Skubal and Atlanta’s Chris Sale are this year’s Cy Young Award winners
Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers was announced as the winner of the American League Cy Young Award today, with Chris Sale of the Atlanta Braves being announced the winner of the National League Cy Young Award.
Skubal was the unanimous choice in the A.L., getting the first place vote on all 30 ballots. Seth Lugo of the Royals was second, and also appeared on all 30 ballots. Emmanuel Clase of the Guardians was third, followed by Cole Ragans and Corbin Burnes. Rangers’ closer Kirby Yates finished 8th, receiving one fourth place vote.
In the National League balloting, Sale received 26 first place votes and four second place votes. Zack Wheeler finished second, getting four first place votes, 25 second place votes and one fourth place vote. Paul Skenes, Dylan Cease and Shota Imanaga rounded out the top five.
