Max Scherzer is joining the Toronto Blue Jays
Max Scherzer and the Toronto Blue Jays are in agreement on a one year, $15.5 million deal, per multiple reports.
I wrote about Max Scherzer earlier this week, and so you can go there and read about my thoughts on him. Though you can ignore the part about him maybe waiting to sign until mid-season.
The Jays have been seeking to be aggressive in the free agent market for the last couple of seasons, with somewhat limited success. As they attempt to challenge in the stacked American League East, they now turn to Scherzer in an effort to fortify their rotation.
Though I am sure the Rangers would have liked to have Scherzer back in 2025, there never really seemed to be much traction in that regard. Scherzer pitched well for Texas when he was on the mound, but didn’t spend a lot of time on the mound, and the durability concerns for the present group in the Rangers rotation, along with the rather impressive salary Scherzer ended up commanded, made that not a great fit.
