The Reds and Royals have agreed on a trade of former first rounders
MLB Trade Rumors: The Kansas City Royals are sending pitcher Brady Singer to the Cincinnati Reds for infielder Jonathan India and outfielder Joey Wiemer, per multiple reports.
We talked about the Singer/India rumors when they first popped up last weekend, noting that Singer seemed like someone who might be a potential fit for the Texas Rangers, should Kansas City be looking for a controllable bat. This is an interesting swap, involving a pair of players who both were drafted but went unsigned out of high school in 2015, and then went in the first round in 2015 — India at #5 overall to Cincy, Singer at #18 overall to Kansas City. Both of them are useful enough players who are under team control through 2026.
The Royals got the Reds to kick in Wiemer in the deal, though I’m not sure how much value he really has. The 25 year old was a 4th round pick of the Brewers in 2020, and was the Brewers’ kind of regular centerfielder in 2023, though he put up just a .204/.283/.362 slash line. He spent most of the 2024 season in AAA and didn’t really hit much there, either while with the Brewers or after he was sent to Cincinnati in the Frankie Montas trade at the deadline.
