For the second day in a row, the Texas Rangers have made a trade to ripple the water. This time, they sent INF/OF Nick Solak to the Cincinnati Reds. This report was confirmed on Thursday by Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News. According to the deal, Solak is the only player that was involved in this trade. The Reds are sending cash considerations to Texas in exchange for Solak’s services, and it appears that no Skyline Chili was involved in this transaction. So far, it has been a busy off-season for the Rangers. Since the regular season ended on October 5, they have already hired a new manager in Bruce Bochy. They also made a trade with the Atlanta Braves for right-hander Jake Odorizzi on Wednesday.
Fresh Start for Nick Solak
This move will be good for all parties involved. It will give Solak a fresh start. It will also give him the chance to get consistent playing time. That is an opportunity that he seldom had with the Rangers, considering the options that they have both in the infield and outfield. The lack of playing may have also been a factor in his struggles at the plate in 2022. Solak finished the regular season with a batting average of .207 (17-for-82). He hit three home runs, drove in four runs, and stole three bases in that stretch. Solak has the ability to play both the infield and outfield, which should benefit the Reds nicely.
They have talent in both areas, but they don’t have the depth that the Rangers have. Solak should fit in nicely with them. This trade will also benefit the Rangers as well. They will be receiving compensation for Solak in the form of cash considerations. The Rangers will most likely use these resources to fund the search for pitching that they are about to embark on. Being linked to names such as Jacob deGrom and Carlos Rodon, they’re going to need it.
Other Roster Moves
It was also announced on Thursday that the Rangers have made two additional roster moves. Right-hander Tyson Miller was acquired by the Milwaukee Brewers via waiver claim. Furthermore, infielder Andy Ibáñez was acquired by the Detroit Tigers, also via waiver claim.
