Matt Festa has been traded to the Cubs for cash considerations
The Texas Rangers have traded pitcher Matt Festa to the Chicago Cubs for cash considerations, the team announced today.
Festa was signed by the Rangers last summer after he was released by the New York Mets. He pitched for Round Rock for a few weeks, was released, was re-signed, pitched a little more for Round Rock, then was brought up to the majors, where he spent the rest of the season in the major league pen. He had a 4.37 ERA and 3.34 FIP in 22.2 innings over 18 appearances.
The 31 year old righthander first made the majors in 2018 with the Seattle Mariners, but has accumulated just barely over two years of service time, meaning that he is still not arbitration-eligible yet. He will presumably vie for a spot in the Chicago Cubs’ bullpen for the 2025 season.
Festa was designated for assignment earlier this week when the Rangers signed reliever Chris Martin and needed a 40 man roster spot for him.
