The Texas Rangers have activated Dane Dunning from the 15-day injured list and optioned Gerson Garabito to Triple-A Round Rock. Dunning was placed on the IL on July 5 with right shoulder soreness. The right-hander allowed one hit with three strikeouts in five scoreless innings in two rehab starts- one with Double-A Frisco and Round Rock. Dunning, 29, is 4-7 with a 4.71 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 15 appearances (12 starts) with the Rangers this season.

Rangers Activate Dane Dunning from 15-day IL
Dunning began the season in the starting rotation but shifted to the bullpen once Max Scherzer returned in June. He made three relief appearances with a 4.50 ERA and five strikeouts in six innings before his second stint on the IL.
Gabrtio has allowed one run across 6 2/3 innings in four games (one start) for the Rangers this season.
One thing about the Rangers season so far is how a starting pitcher has been out with an injury. Dunning’s return is good news, but so is the news on three Texas pitchers on the IL. Jacob deGrom threw a side session in Anaheim on Tuesday that was between 40 and 45 pitches. Manager Bruce Bochy nothing that the right-hander’s fastball came in at around 94-95 mph. Following another session, deGrom will throw a few live batting practice sessions before going out on a rehab assignment.
Tyler Mahle is Double-A bound for his next rehab start. Mahle has yet to allow a run and has struck out 11 batters over 9 1/3 innings over the four starts of his rehab assignment. He has been building up his pitch count slowly as he makes his way back from Tommy John surgery. Mahle will need to reach his pitch count in the 65-to-80 range before the Rangers bring him back from the 60-day IL.
