The Texas Rangers received two important updates on Corey Seager and Josh Jung as the infielders battle injuries.
Rangers Receive Crucial Injury Updates On All-Star Infielders
Rangers Injury Updates
On Tuesday, the Rangers earned a 7-0 victory over the San Diego Padres. Overall, Texas has seen inconsistent results in 2024 as the team battles many injury concerns. As of this writing, Star infielders Corey Seager and Josh Jung are among the Rangers dealing with injuries.
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy provided an update on Seager, who was recently hit by a pitch in the wrist. The Rangers have closely been evaluating Seager and the shortstop is considered “day-to-day.”
“He’s day-to-day. He’s doing better,” Bochy said of Seager, via Kennedi Landry of MLB.com. “He took some swings today, so we’re getting good news on that end.”
Landry also reported that Jung said he is taking his injury situation day by day. Jung is also battling a wrist injury; his return timeline remains uncertain.
Seager and Jung were both All-Stars in 2023. The Rangers are unquestionably better when both stars are on the field. Seager is slashing .260/.345/.451/.796 across 72 games played in 2024. Jung, meanwhile, has been limited to only four games this season.
One has to wonder how the Rangers injury concerns will impact the ball club ahead of the MLB trade deadline.
Rangers Have Questions To Answer Before Trade Deadline
The fact that the Rangers won the World Series in 2023 indicates that their current core of players can find success. Given all of the injury trouble and uncertainty in 2024, however, Texas may opt to re-tool before the trade deadline. This means pitchers such as Max Scherzer, Michael Lorenzen, and Andrew Heaney may emerge as trade candidates.
A complete rebuild seems unlikely. Texas likely has optimism for the future. The team can always turn things around in July and play their way back into contention. In that case, buying at the deadline will instantly become an attractive option.
Getting and staying healthy will be extremely important. It will be interesting to see how this specific Rangers team will perform if they can feature a mostly healthy roster at some point. The potential of the ball club is undeniable.
We will continue to monitor and provide updates on the Rangers as they are made available.
