The Dodgers, Padres and Jays are reportedly the finalists
The Roki Sasaki Sweepstakes is expected to come to a resolution in the coming days, and we are starting to see some narrowing of the field, as both the Giants and the Yankees have been told they are out of the running, per reports today.
Baseball America had a run down earlier today that identified the four teams they saw as most likely to sign Sasaki. Those four teams were (in descending order of likelihood of signing Sasaki) the Los Angeles Dodgers, the San Diego Padres, the New York Yankees, and the Texas Rangers. The Yankees are now presumably out, leaving three of those teams still standing.
Sasaki, a 23 year old righthander, is subject to the international free agent bonus pools, and so will be limited to receiving whatever money the team that signs him has available in their bonus pool, plus any amounts they are able to trade for. He will made the league minimum his first three years, and then be arbitration-eligible for the next three seasons.
UPDATE — The Rangers have reportedly been informed that they are also out of the running for Sasaki.
Oh well.
UPDATE — San Diego, the Dodgers, and Toronto are the finalists, per reports.
