All the players on the Rangers’ 40 man roster not already under contract have been tendered contacts
The Texas Rangers announced today that all 27 players on the 40 man roster who were not under contract have been tendered contracts today. In addition, the team announced that Dane Dunning and Josh Sborz have agreed to terms on one year deals.
It would appear that Dunning and Sborz were the guys in danger of being non-tendered, since deals that are struck today — the deadline for tendering players contracts — are usually for players who will be non-tendered if an agreement isn’t reached. As we mentioned earlier this afternoon, Dunning agreed to a one year deal with incentives, but with his base salary reduced by the maximum allowed under the CBA — 20%.
Josh Sborz, per Evan Grant, underwent shoulder debridement surgery last week, and will be out 2-3 months. Sborz was not projected to make much more than the league minimum in arbitration anyway, so it would make sense that, even with him undergoing surgery, the team would opt to keep him for 2025.
Nathaniel Lowe and Leody Taveras were the two other players most commonly speculated to be potential non-tender candidates among the Rangers arbitration-eligible players. Both, as it turns out, are sticking around for the time being.
