Since Winter Meetings started at the beginning of the week, the Texas Rangers have been one of the most aggressive teams in MLB. On Tuesday, they re-signed veteran starter Nathan Eovaldi and traded for power-hitting infielder Jake Burger. On Wednesday afternoon, the Rangers continued to strengthen their roster by signing veteran relief pitcher Jacob Webb to a one-year deal.

Rangers Sign Jacob Webb to One-Year Deal
Webb is coming off of a solid season with the Baltimore Orioles, during which he pitched in 60 games and finished with a 3.02 ERA. Webb has flown under the radar through most of his career but has been a reliable reliever when given the opportunity. He is currently carrying a solid 2.98 career ERA through 192 games. Webb made his debut in 2019 with the Atlanta Braves and spent three seasons with them. He split 2023 between the Los Angeles Angels and the Orioles.
Ranger fans should be thrilled that the team is making an effort to repair its currently dismantled bullpen, which frankly was one of the worst in the league last season. The Rangers still have a lot of work to do to make their bullpen competitive again, but signing Webb is a big step in the right direction. Hopefully, he can be a solid contributor to the Rangers as they look to be competitive again going into 2025.
With the Winter Meetings coming to an end, it will be interesting to see if the Rangers make any more moves before that officially happens. The team has already significantly improved from where they were a week ago and has made it clear that they are trying to revert to the competitive team they were in 2023. Last year was a hard fall back to earth coming off the franchise’s first World Series title.
