Evan Grant writes that the Rangers are looking at starting their own Regional Sports Network
The Texas Rangers are looking at starting their own Regional Sports Network, according to Evan Grant.
This is not, I don’t think, a big surprise. As Grant notes, the Rangers are essentially a free agent this offseason in regards to their television broadcast rights, due to the ongoing Diamond Sports/Bally Sports fiasco that has the RSN that has been broadcasting the Rangers in bankruptcy. The organization has made it clear in the filings that it does not want to be tied to Diamond Sports if it is going to have to take a significant haircut in regards to the rights fees provided for in their existing deal.
The fact that they are, as Grant puts it, pursuing starting their own RSN doesn’t mean that that will ultimately occur for the 2025 season. There are numerous options available, and the Rangers may decide going another route makes the most sense. Starting their own RSN, though, would give them the most control over their broadcast rights and how they can get the broadcasts to their fans.
