The Rangers have brought back Matt Festa on a minor league deal
Matt Festa, the righthanded reliever who appeared in 18 games for the Texas Rangers last year, and who survived on the 40 man roster for a surprisingly long time before being designated for assignment in early January, is back with the Rangers on a minor league deal, per reports.
Festa had been sold to the Chicago Cubs back in January. The Cubs designated him for assignment to make room for the newly acquired Ryan Pressly on their 40 man roster. Festa cleared waivers and was outrighted, but exercised his right to reject his outright assignment and become a free agent.
And so now he is back to the Rangers, where he will presumably be among the gaggle of arms vying for a bullpen job in the Rangers pen in 2025.
I said on BlueSky that I was going to nickname him Butt Bongo, so he could be Matt “Butt Bongo” Festa, but I’m not sure how committed I really am to that. I’m going to have to think about it.
