The Dodgers have reportedly dealt infielder Gavin Lux to the Cincinnati Reds
The Los Angeles Dodgers have traded infielder Gavin Lux to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for minor league outfielder Mike Sirota and a competitive balance draft pick in 2025 that is #37 overall.
The 27 year old Lux was the Dodgers’ first round pick in 2016, and was a consensus top 5 prospect in all of MLB heading into the 2020 season. He struggled to hit much until 2022, when Lux put up a 745 OPS in 471 plate appearances while playing second base and some left field.
Lux was slated to take over at shortstop for the departed Trea Turner in 2023, but ended up missing the entire season due to a torn ACL. In his return to the field in 2024, concerns about his defense resulted in him staying at second base, and he slashed .251/.320/.383 in 487 plate appearances.
This is a curious move by Cincinnati, given that they just traded second baseman Jonathan India in part because of a surplus of infielders. Luc has two years of team control remaining.
Sirota was a third round pick out of Northeastern in 2024 by the Reds. He was ranked 70th in the 2024 draft class on BA’s board.
