The Angels have reportedly agreed to a three year deal with free agent pitcher Yusei Kikuchi
Yusei Kikuchi and the Anaheim Angels have agreed to terms on a three year deal worth $63 million, per reports.
Kikuchi is an interesting case, as the lefthander, who turns 34 in June, has generally oscillated between okay and not good in his major league career. The Houston Astros acquired him at the trade deadline last summer, however, and Kikuchi pitched much better for him than he had for Seattle (his original team) or the Blue Jays (the team he signed with as a free agent after the 2021 season). Kikuchi put up a 2.70 ERA, 3.07 FIP and 2.74 xFIP in 60 innings over 10 appearances for Houston, while his career numbers are a 4.57 ERA/4.53 FIP/3.98 xFIP.
The Angels have been aggressive so far this offseason, landing Jorge Soler from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for Griffin Canning, who the Braves non-tendered, and signing Travis d’Arnaud to a two year deal. These moves should make the Angels better than they were in 2024, though there’s still work to do in order for them even get to being projected as a .500 team.
