Josh Smith is a Silver Slugger winner
Congratulations to Josh Smith, who was the winner of the American League Silver Slugger Award for the utility player position.
I have a confession to make…I was aware that Silver Slugger winners were being announced last night, but figured the chances of a Ranger winning were negligible, and so didn’t really pay much attention to the announcement, and thus did not realize until this morning that Smith had won. Which is why there wasn’t a post about this last night.
Smith appeared in 149 games for the Rangers in 2024, slashing .258/.337/.394 in 592 plate appearances, good for a 110 OPS+. He got the bulk of his playing time at third base, filling in for Josh Jung there in Jung’s absence, but also had 49 games at shortstop and five starts in the outfield.
Smith also was fifth in the American League in hit by pitches (hits by pitch? let’s just say HBPs), with 18.
