The Anaheim Angels have reportedly agreed to terms with free agent closer Kenley Jansen
Free agent closer Kenley Jansen and the Anaheim Angels have reportedly agreed to terms on a deal, per reports. I’m guessing it is one year for somewhere around $10-12 million, but I haven’t seen any financial details yet.
Jansen, 36, is coming off a two year stint with the Boston Red Sox, with whom he signed a 2 year, $36 million deal after the 2022 season. He had a 3.44 ERA in 99 innings with 56 saves with Boston. Previously Jansen had spent 12 years with the Dodgers at the beginning of his career, and was with the Atlanta Braves for the 2022 season.
Jansen is the active leader in career saves, with 447, and is fourth all time. The closest active pitchers behind him are Craig Kimbrel, who has 440 saves and is probably done as a closer, Aroldis Chapman (335), Edwin Diaz (225), and Raisel Iglesias (224). Jansen is 31 saves behind Lee Smith for the #3 spot all time in saves, and getting an opportunity with a team that would allow him to be the closer and continue his march up the all time saves list was reportedly a priority for Jansen.
UPDATE — Ken Rosenthal says the deal is one year, $10 million.
