Would you vote for Jimmy Rollins for the Baseball Hall of Fame?
The Baseball Writers Association of America has released the ballot for the 2025 Baseball Hall of Fame voting, so we are doing polls on the players on the list.
Today is shortstop Jimmy Rollins.
Jimmy Rollins was the Philadelphia Phillies’ second round draft pick in the 1996 MLB Draft, and spent almost his entire career with the Phillies. Rollins had a cup of coffee with the Phillies in 2000, became the team’s starting shortstop in 2001, and held that job for the next fourteen years. With the Phillies rebuilding in the mid-2010s, Rollins was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers prior to the 2015 season, and spent 2015 as their shortstop. He signed with the Chicago White Sox prior to the 2016 season, but was released halfway through the season. He was signed by the San Francisco Giants prior to the 2017 season, was released at the end of spring training, and retired after that.
Rollins had a nice debut in 2001, when he finished 3rd in the Rookie of the Year voting and 17th in the MVP voting, but was more or less an average to slightly above average player his first three years as a regular. Rollins had a strong five year peak from 2004 through 2008 when he put up 25.8 bWAR over that five year stretch, which included winning the National League MVP Award in 2007. Aside from that five year stretch, he didn’t put up a bWAR of 3 or better other than his final season in Philly, when he had a 4.1 bWAR.
Rollings was a three time All Star, won four Gold Gloves, and won the Silver Slugger award once. He led the league in triples four times and in stolen bases and runs once apiece. For his career, he tallied 2455 hits and 470 stolen bases with a .264/.324/.418 slash line.
Rollins has a 47.6 career bWAR, which places him 27th all time among shortstops, between Jim Fregosi and Art Fletcher. His JAWS score of 40.1 has him 34th among shortstops.
So, if you were a Hall of Fame voter this year, would you vote for Jimmy Rollins?
