Would you vote for Ian Kinsler for the Baseball Hall of Fame?
The Baseball Writers Association of America has released the ballot for the 2025 Baseball Hall of Fame voting, so are doing polls on the players on the list.
Today is second baseman Ian Kinsler.
I’m pretty sure that, if you are reading this, you’re pretty familiar with Ian Kinsler.
17th round pick of the Texas Rangers in 2003 MLB Draft. Traded to the Colorado Rockies, along with Erik Thompson, in the summer of 2004 for Larry Walker, only to have Walker veto the deal. That was probably for the best.
Kinsler made it to the bigs in 2006 and had an eight year run as the Rangers’ starting second baseman, during which time he was consistently an All Star caliber player. Kinsler slashed .273/.349/.454 in 1066 games as a Ranger, stole 172 bases in 214 attempts, and combined really good offensive, really good defense and elite baserunning to be a great player who, for whatever reason, many fans didn’t appreciate or, in some cases, even tolerate.
Kinsler was traded to the Detroit Tigers after the 2013 season for Prince Fielder, a move the Rangers made to open up a starting job for Jurickson Profar and add a quality lefthanded power bat to the lineup. Neither of those goals really panned out, and the deal turned out to be one of the worst in Rangers history, as Kinsler put up 17.4 bWAR in four seasons for the Tigers.
Kinsler spent 2018 with the Angels and Red Sox as a regular, came off the bench for the San Diego Padres in 2019, and then retired after that season.
In all, Kinsler was a four time All Star and won two Gold Gloves while putting up a 54.1 bWAR and a career .269/.337/.440 slash line.
So, if you were a Hall of Fame voter this year, would you vote for Ian Kinsler?
