Rangers outfielder Sandro Fabian has reportedly agreed to a three year deal with the Hiroshima Carp
Texas Rangers outfielder Sandro Fabian has agreed to terms on a three year, $5.8 million deal with the Hiroshima Carp, per reports.
The 26 year old Fabian has spent the last three years in the Rangers’ system after being with the San Francisco Giants from 2015-21. He has essentially been AAA depth in the outfield, although he did get called up in September and appeared in three major league games, going 0 for 5.
Fabian seemed likely to be designated for assignment or non-tendered at some point in the offseason to clear a 40 man roster spot. Since Fabian is currently on the 40 man roster, the Rangers will presumably get some sort of cash payment from the Carp. I imagine it would be an amount in the high five or low six figures.
Fabian theoretically would have been a righthanded platoon or bench option in a corner outfield or DH spot had he made it to camp with the Rangers, but that would have seemed to have been a longshot. Instead, he is getting a big fat payday to play in the NPB.
