Of the 13 players who were tendered Qualifying Offers, 12 of them have declined
Today was the deadline for free agents who had been tendered Qualifying Offers by their teams to accept the QO, and 12 of the 13 players who were QO’d have declined. Only Nick Martinez of the Cincinnati Reds accepted.
Here is the list of players who rejected the Qualifying Offer:
Willy Adames
Pete Alonso
Alex Bregman
Corbin Burnes
Max Fried
Teoscar Hernandez
Sean Manaea
Nick Pivetta
Anthony Santander
Luis Severino
Juan Soto
Christian Walker
The news that Martinez would accept came out Sunday, and it seemed like an obvious decision for Martinez, who now gets $21.05 million guaranteed for 2025 rather than find a suitor who was willing to both sign him to a contract that was better than 1/$21.05M and part with a draft pick for the privilege.
Of the others, Nick Pivetta seemed like the most likely candidate to accept the QO, given he’s been a 2-2.5 win pitcher for the last four seasons, with a nice K rate but a scary HR rate.
