The Rangers have swapped out a couple of arms in the bullpen
The Texas Rangers have recalled lefthanded reliever Jacob Latz from AAA Round Rock, the team announced today. To make room for Latz on the active roster, the Rangers have optioned righthanded reliever Marc Church to AAA Round Rock.
This is kind of an odd move. Latz spent much of the 2024 season in the major league pen for the Rangers, but didn’t have an impressive spring training and was sent down to Round Rock to start 2025. Latz has a 3.12 ERA in 8.2 innings over five appearances for Round Rock this year. He last pitched on April 13, and has gone more than 40 pitches his last two times out, so this may be a matter of wanting another multi-inning guy besides Caleb Boushley available with Patrick Corbin going today and Kumar Rocker going tomorrow.
Church made the Opening Day roster with a solid camp, but hasn’t pitched since April 11 and has struggled some with his command.
