The Rangers made their final procedural roster moves ahead of today’s opener
The Texas Rangers announced today that Cody Bradford has been placed on the 15 day injured list with a left elbow sprain, and Patrick Corbin has been optioned to AAA Round Rock. That leaves the team with 26 players on its active roster.
We knew that Bradford was going to be on the injured list to start the season, with the team hoping he could be available as a bullpen option sometime in May in a best case scenario. He is the only player on the 40 man roster starting the season on the 15 day (or 10 day) injured list. Two players — Josh Sborz and Jon Gray — are on the 60 day injured list, and thus don’t count towards the 40 man roster limit.
We also knew that Corbin would start the season in the minors, as he was signed late in the spring and needs some time to be stretched out. We also knew he had an option remaining, and thus could be optioned to the minors, though it wasn’t clear whether the procedural mechanism to send him down would be that, or putting him on the injured list and sending him out on a rehab assignment.
