Three Texas Rangers prospects crack the Baseball Prospectus top 101 list
Baseball Prospectus has released their top 101 prospect list for the 2025 season, and the Texas Rangers have three prospects who have made the list.
The highest ranked Rangers prospect is shortstop Sebastian Walcott, who checks in all the way up at #10. BP had Walcott, who signed with the Rangers one year and 364 days ago, at #75 heading into the 2023 season after an impressive stateside debut in the Arizona Complex League. The Rangers assigned him to high-A Hickory to start the 2024 season — a very aggressive assignment — and it initially looked like Walcott was overmatched there. But from June 1 through the end of the season, he slashed .291/.348/.503, and earned a late season callup to Frisco.
Righthanded pitcher Kumar Rocker is at #41 on the list, between Padres catching teenager Ethan Salas and #3 overall 2024 draft pick Charlie Condon. Rocker’s strong return from Tommy John surgery last summer, and his domination of minor league hitters, saw him shoot up boards late in 2024. There’s a good chance he will graduate from the list by mid-season, as he will be vying for a rotation spot this spring, and if he doesn’t break camp with the club he will be at Round Rock as one of the first guys up if a starter is needed.
Finally, righthanded pitcher Alejandro Rosario is at #72. The 2023 5th rounder, who turned 23 last week, had a breakout 2024 season, putting up a 2.24 ERA in 88 innings between low-A and high-A. Rosario, like Walcott, likely starts the season at Frisco.
Walcott, Rocker and Rosario are the consensus top three prospects in the Rangers’ system currently, and are consensus top 100 prospects at this point. I expect most top 100 lists to have the trio somewhere on the lists, and I would be very surprised if any other Ranger prospect made a top 100 list.
