Texas clinches a well-earned losing season
The Texas Rangers scored four runs but the Seattle Mariners scored eight runs.
With Dane Dunning called on to make an unwanted start for Max Scherzer after the originally scheduled starter suffered his probably dozenth old man injury of the season, Mad Max goes out Mild Max as his time with the Rangers has surely ended.
Dunning immediately allowed a home run to Julio Rodriguez who is keeping his career afloat on the backs of Texas pitching this season. From there, the Mariners collected hits seemingly at will without ones that did much damage until the BABIP gods took mercy on them in a 2-2 game and they collected like a dozen ground back singles to put three on the board in the sixth to untie the game.
The Rangers had a rally of their own in the bottom of the frame but it only went for two runs and the game stayed 5-4 until the ninth when Texas bumbled their way into allowing three addition Mariners runs to erase any hopes of completing the comeback.
Player of the Game: Someone probably did something positive at some point but like the Rangers allowed an insurance run on a pinch runner stolen base wild pitch so, meh.
Up Next: The Rangers will try to avoid getting swept in the final home game of this season with LHP Andrew Heaney called on to make the start for Texas against RHP Bryan Woo for Seattle.
The Sunday afternoon series finale from The Shed is set for 1:35 pm CT and you can catch it on BS Southwest if you’re so inclined.
