Back to the usual amount of support for Andrew Heaney
The Texas Rangers didn’t score a run but the Seattle Mariners scored seven runs.
Andrew Heaney was a pitch away from getting out of the first inning today when he threw a 3-2 strike to Randy Arozarena that was called a ball which turned a two-out single by Justin Turner into a certified jam that became an entire afternoon-changer when his former batterymate Mitch Garver smacked a three-run home run.
Andrew Heaney and a three-run deficit. Yeah, that’s not going to work. Not for one of baseball’s least supported pitchers in 2024. And indeed, the Ranger bats were more than happy to take a nap through the rest of this one as they mustered not just no runs in another Heaney outing, but all of one hit total against George Kirby, who seems to annually have their number.
It was a fun series in as far as who the Rangers sent to the mound, but as has been the case for much of this year, the bats found a way to sour it.
Player of the Game: After home plate umpire Malachi Moore blew it (a common theme throughout this series, frankly) leading to three runs, Heaney settled in and made it through the next four frames without allowing a run as he begged the lineup to get back in the game. The plea fell on deaf ears.
Were it not for a second inning Ezequiel Duran single, we would have been on our latest Rangers no-hit watch.
Up Next: The Rangers have Monday off before starting their final homestand of the season with a series against the Blue Jays. Toronto hasn’t yet named a starter but Texas is expected to open the series with RHP Nathan Eovaldi.
The Tuesday evening first pitch from The Shed is set for 7:05 pm CT and will be telecast on BS Southwest.
