Sandro Fabian’s very brief major league stint
With the 2024 regular season over, it is time for us to go back and take a look at the players who appeared for the Texas Rangers this season.
Today, we look at outfielder Sandro Fabian.
I do a lot of Sporcle quizzes. One of the types of quizzes they will have on Sporcle is a kind of meta-quiz, where they will ask, for example, “Which country is the least often guessed in the ‘Countries of Asia’ quiz?”. And the challenge is to see if you can pick the most obscure Asian country, the one that the most people miss when doing the Countries of Asia quiz.
Should there be a “Which player is the least often guessed in the ‘2024 Texas Rangers players’ quiz?” quiz, Sandro Fabian would be the name I’m thinking you’ll want to go with.
I forget he played for the 2024 Texas Rangers. I never remember he’s on the 40 man roster until I look at the 40 man roster and see him on it. I probably wouldn’t even have remembered to do this post had the news not broken that he was headed to Japan.
Did you know that Fabian has spent the last three years in the Rangers’ organization? Its true. I vaguely remember him being with Round Rock in 2023, although I also tend to conflate him with Elier Hernandez, another righthanded hitting outfielder who spent four years in the Rangers’ system, and went to Japan in the middle of 2024.
Elier Hernandez slashed .290/.386/.474 for Round Rock in 2024 before going to Japan, and then slashed .286/.339/.437 there for the Yomiuri Giants. Just in case your were curious.
Fabian was originally signed by the San Francisco Giants, and was actually in the top 10 Giants prospects in the BA lists prior to both 2017 and 2018. His bat didn’t progress, though, and upon becoming a minor league free agent after the 2021 season, he joined the Rangers, spending most of 2022 at AA Frisco before toiling at Round Rock in 2023 and 2024.
Fabian was summoned to the bigs on September 4 when Corey Seager landed on the injured list. He only appeared in three games. He was 0 for 5 in those three games. His major league line is .000/.000/.000, but hey, he does have a major league line, and that counts for something.
