Corbin does more than enough for Texas in win
The Texas Rangers scored three runs while the Anaheim Angels scored one run.
I’m sort of tired of writing the same thing already about the hitters. I’m not tired of writing that the Rangers have won, which they did again tonight, but the way in which they are doing it has been unusual and sometimes unpleasant, especially if you’re used to a Texas franchise that scores runs.
Leading the way at the plate was Corey Seager and Jake Burger, both of whom had three hits in four at-bats with Seager driving in two runs and Burger driving in the other run.
Overall, the Rangers had eleven hits, a promising number, but they left nine on base, had just two hits in ten opportunities with runners in scoring position, and hit into three double plays to stifle rallies that could have blown the game open. You know, same ol’, same ol’.
Nevertheless, three runs was enough as they again got good pitching and since that was true, the Rangers have taken this series with a couple of wins in a row to start off this all-LA homestand.
Player of the Game: The good pitching was initiated by Patrick Corbin, much to my inherent disbelief. Coming into the game, I saw a matchup between one of Anaheim’s best pitchers Jose Soriano and Texas’ Jon Gray, Cody Bradford, nor Jack Leiter can pitch right now so here’s veteran innings eater Corbin. Seemed like you might as well have penciled in the loss.
Instead, Soriano allowed ten hits in 5 2⁄3 innings and was arguably lucky to have escaped with only three runs on his ledger. Meanwhile, Corbin worked through 5 1⁄3 innings and allowed just the one run on five hits and a walk, while striking to six Angels batters.
It seems mean to say but anything that Texas gets aside from innings from Corbin, who has been one of the worst starting pitchers in the big leagues over the last few years, but is one who has shown the skill of availability, is a bonus and tonight that bonus was a well-pitched game and a victory. Hats off to Patrick Corbin.
Up Next: The finale of this series will see the Rangers go for a sweep with RHP Kumar Rocker called upon to take the mound opposite RHP Jack Kochanowicz for Anaheim.
The Thursday evening first pitch from The Shed is set for 7:05 pm CT and the game will be aired on the Rangers Sports Network.
