The Dallas Cowboys have released Andrew Booth to make room for Jonathan Mingo.
The Dallas Cowboys made a trade on Tuesday morning and acquired wide receiver Jonathan Mingo from the Carolina Panthers. All told Dallas sent a 2025 fourth in exchange for Mingo and a 2025 seventh.
What goes up must come down though and with a new player joining the Cowboys roster one had to make their way off of it. It was initially speculated by some that someone like Brandin Cooks would also be returning from injured reserve soon which would add to complications, but whether or not that happens a spot was created.
Andrew Booth is the odd man out, according to the mothership.
The corresponding move is a release of cornerback Andrew Booth, who was acquired via trade during this year’s training camp in Oxnard.
The Cowboys initially acquired Booth from the Minnesota Vikings in a cornerback swap as Dallas sent them Nahshon Wright. If we follow the overall paper trail here it goes:
- Dallas Cowboys select Nahshon Wright in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft
- Wright is traded for Andrew Booth during training camp in 2024
- Booth is cut for Jonathan Mingo who the Cowboys acquired via trade for a 2025 fourth (also receiving back a 2025 seventh)
Booth hardly played for the Cowboys this season so this is not necessarily shocking.
We will see if Brandin Cooks still does find his way back to the team.
Update: 4:10pm ET
The Cowboys also released Jordan Phillips on Tuesday, another player who they traded for during training camp.
