It’s hard to tell the story of Troy Aikman‘s career without mentioning John Madden. And on Tuesday, the former Cowboys quarterback shared his condolences for the late football legend.

Aikman and Madden will always be linked. As Pat Summerall and John Madden narrated so many of the dynastic Dallas Cowboys games throughout the 1990’s. Aikman helped lead the the Cowboys to three Super Bowls during that time.
The two all-time greats also entered the Pro Football Hall of Fame together in the Class of 2006.

The NFL announced Madden’s unexpected passing on Tuesday night.
Madden served as the coach of the Oakland Raiders from 1969-1978, leading the team to seven AFC championships over that span. Including one Super Bowl title in 1976. The legendary coach still owns the highest win percentage in NFL history, .759.

After his coaching career, Madden went on to become arguably the most famous broadcaster in sports and helped revolutionize football telecasts forever. He later carried his football knowledge into the world of video games, creating one of the most iconic titles in all of gaming.
Like Madden, Aikman also got into broadcasting after his playing career. The Cowboys great is on record saying that John Madden left an indelible impact on him. And is part of the reason he is where he is today.
