Dak Prescott is in a contract year with the Dallas Cowboys and is likely to become a free agent next year. Whether he hits free agency as a highly-valued player or stays, his ensuing contract is likely to be gigantic.
Appearing on The Herd with Colin Cowherd, Fox Sports analyst Nick Wright made the case that Prescott is likely to receive a “earth shattering” contract with his next deal – be it with the Cowboys or one of the many other teams that are likely to be pursuing one. As for the number, Wright believes it could rise to a princely $60 million per year.
“His next contract, whoever gives it to him, is going to be earth shattering,” Wright declared.
Right now Joe Burrow is making the most money in the NFL with a deal worth $55 million per year. Dak’s deal stands to be nearly 10-percent larger than Burrow’s – or any of the other quarterbacks who have led their team to a Super Bowl in the past five years.
Dak Prescott has been a model of consistency for the Cowboys for years now and is on the cusp of becoming the team’s all-time leading passer.
But between his playoff disappointments and his contract, there’s a growing sense that his days in Dallas are numbered without a title this year. The Cowboys’ loss could be someone else’s gain – for the right price.
