One bettor really doesn’t believe in the Dallas Cowboys.
According to FanDuel Sportsbook, someone placed a $1 bet on the Cowboys going 0-17 in 2024. The wager would pay out $1,001 if America’s Team somehow goes winless.
Unless the Cowboys suffer as many misfortunes as the Springfield nuclear power plant’s softball team this summer, this bettor just wasted $1.
The Cowboys have won 12 games in each of the last three seasons. FanDuel sets their 2024 win total for 10.5, so they’re in no real danger of becoming the first 0-17 team in NFL history.
Only two teams (2008 Detroit Lions and 2017 Detroit Lions) have finished an entire season without a single victory over the last four decades. They each went 0-16 before the league added a game to the schedule.
While the Cowboys must combat a difficult AFC North and last year’s NFC Championship Game participants (Lions and San Francisco 49ers), the NFC South provides them with more winnable matchups. Mike McCarthy’s squad would certainly be embarrassed to lose to the Carolina Panthers, who went 2-15 in 2023.
Dallas also outscored the New York Giants and Washington Commanders by 135 combined points in four victories last year. This gambler needs both NFC East squads to gain vengeance by upsetting the Cowboys twice.
A football fan who really despises the Cowboys was likely having fun with a lottery ticket they should know won’t cash. Or maybe they somehow misread the ticket and thought they bet on Dallas not winning a playoff game again.
Given the nationwide frenzy caused by an early postseason exit, just imagine the reaction to the Cowboys going 0-17 in a contract year for Mike McCarthy and Dak Prescott.
