The New Orleans Saints or Baltimore Ravens may sign potential quarterback cut candidate, Joshua Dobbs this upcoming season. According to a report, the 49ers may move on from him since he’s losing ground to last year’s third-stringer Brandon Allen and rookie Tanner Mordecai. The hope for Dobbs is to prove that he could be a reliable backup for Brock Purdy this year so he could follow a similar path to most quarterbacks and land a starting job with another team next season. However, it doesn’t sound like Dobbs is staying on the roster since one source believes that Mordecai may win the No. 3 job while he may find himself cut or on the practice squad.
Dobbs has been a journeyman in his career after getting the chance to start for the Arizona Cardinals, ending that campaign 1-7. He did show some signs of potential since he was able to get a job with the Vikings after that and went 2-2, but having the best game of his career against the 49ers. This might’ve been the reason why he was able to earn a spot with San Francisco after notching 265 passing yards, two touchdowns and a 102.2 passer rating. Dobbs could still earn a starting job in the league one day with the right opportunity so it’s probably not over until other teams need a new quarterback.
The Saints could be in the market for being that Derek Carr is on the hot seat. If they don’t feel like he’s the right man for the job then they could sign a one-year Dobbs and wait until next year’s draft. However, Lamar Jackson needs more comfortability if he’s the starter for the next decade since Josh Johnson hasn’t been showing he can win bowl games.

Next Possible Teams
Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs are going to have one of the best offenses in the entire league for a while but that doesn’t mean they don’t continue adding depth. They’ve been actively adding some cushion for Patrick Mahomes this upcoming season after signing Carson Wentz to a one-year deal so they’re preparing for anything to happen. However, every time Wentz steps on the field, it almost seems like a disappointment and he hasn’t been able to prove to the league that he can still play. It’s still surprising he was able to land a job but he isn’t the worst backup so they could safely add a No. 3 quarterback behind Wentz in case he doesn’t work out for the team.
Mahomes has been the type to go through countless injuries, especially during the playoffs. They need a clutch backup similar to what Chad Henne was able to do in one campaign. Dobbs isn’t god by any means but he has that ability to get it done in the playoffs if there’s an emergency and if Kansas City wants to, they could put him in the spotlight. This would probably get him in the headlines across the league for a starting chance.
Los Angeles Chargers
It’s already hard that Justin Herbert doesn’t have Mike Williams or Keenan Allen returning to the roster this upcoming year. This may be a trial-and-error type season for him which may not bode well for him if he scrambles or stays in the pocket for too long. Situations like these likely put him at injury risk so it may be safe to add Dobbs as the upgrade over Easton Stick. Stick hasn’t been able to prove that he can win games as a starter so the Chargers are one injury away from disaster.
Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys don’t look like they’re a team that wants to win it all this year. It’s looking more like they’re tanking this season away to get some better draft picks and possibly draft their next quarterback. However, there have been rumors that they could trade Trey Lance before he hits the market next offseason and if they do so, then it may be safe to bring in a healthy Dobbs. Cooper Rush may be there but he’s getting older and doesn’t seem like he’ll get any more playing time.
He probably won’t start but it allows Dobbs to showcase his talent if Dak Prescott continues to lack.
