Two of the NFL’s foremost figures are reportedly set to take the stand in the league’s multi-billion dollar “Sunday Ticket” trial.
According to Sports Business Journal, commissioner Roger Goodell is scheduled to testify at the U.S. District Court in LA on Monday, with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones set to testify sometime early this week — possibly joining Goodell today as well.
Their opponents claim the NFL bundling all of the rights to its out-of-market games and selling them at a premium price through a single company (i.e. “Sunday Ticket”), violated antitrust laws and they are seeking $7 billion in damages.
Predictably the league has denied any wrongdoing and that’s what Goodell and Jones will continue to do during their respective court appearances.
So far evidence has reportedly been provided that supports the idea that the league preferred fewer subscribers at a higher price, rather than allowing wider network or team-specific packages at a lower figure.
It’ll be very interesting to hear what the jury makes of the findings and whether or not they believe the league should be held responsible.
The NFL has never been shy about trying to bring in as much money as humanly possible. But did they use shady means to do so?
