The Dallas Cowboys must have been watching the UFL very closely this offseason because they’ve been signing a couple of the league’s top players – including this latest one.
According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Cowboys are signing former Las Vegas Raiders first-round pick Gareon Conley to a deal. Conley was the No. 24 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. He spent the last few months with the UFL’s DC Defenders, who went 4-6 this past season.
“Dallas Cowboys signed former Raiders’ 2017 first-round pick Gareon Conley, who spent this season in the UFL with the DC Defenders,” Schefter wrote.
Conley’s first NFL run ran from 2017 to 2019, during which he started 26 of 31 games between the Raiders and the Houston Texans. He actually had a pretty solid 2018 season, logging three interceptions, 15 passes defended and 37 tackles that season.
But midway through the 2019 season, Conley was traded to the Texans. Despite finishing the playoffs and being a part of their playoff run, the option on his contract was declined and he was placed on injured reserve before the start of the 2020 season.
Conley was out of professional football from 2021 to 2023 before joining the Defenders late last year.
Will Conley’s second run in the NFL be an even more successful one?
