Dak Prescott’s future with the Dallas Cowboys is a major talking point in NFL circles. The All-Pro quarterback is set to enter the final year of his $160 million contract.
So, how do the Cowboys feel about Prescott? According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the team wants to sign him to a new deal. At least that’s what he reported on “NFL Live” this Friday.
“They are all in on re-signing Dak Prescott, eventually. They just haven’t shown it yet,” Fowler said. “I’m told behind the scenes they’ve made it clear they don’t want him to hit free agency in 2025.”
If Prescott hits free agency, the chances of Dallas re-signing him will lower dramatically. For that reason alone, the pressure is on the Cowboys’ front office to get a deal done.
Back in April, reporters asked Prescott if he was worried about his future in Dallas. His answer was quite telling.
“I’m not going to say I fear being here or not. I don’t fear either situation, to be candid with you,” Prescott said. “I love this game and love to play and love to better myself as a player and my teammates around me. Right now it’s with the Dallas Cowboys, it’s where I want to be, and that’s where I am, and that’s the focus. And after the season we’ll see where we’re at and if the future holds that. And if not, we’ll go from there.”
Now that we know the Cowboys want to retain Prescott, it seems like he holds all the leverage.
Prescott is coming off a season where he had 4,516 passing yards, 36 touchdowns and nine interceptions. If he has similar production this fall, he’ll secure one of the most lucrative paydays in NFL history.
