The Dallas Cowboys are unlikely to see CeeDee Lamb at their mandatory minicamp this week.
The star wide receiver did not attend offseason team activities as he seeks a new contract extension. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said nobody spotted Lamb at the team’s facility on Tuesday morning, and ESPN’s Adam Schefter wrote that Lamb isn’t expected to extend the practices.
Dallas can fine Lamb around $100,000 for each day of minicamp he misses.
Lamb is currently slated to play this season on a fifth-year option worth approximately $18 million. One of his peers may have helped the 25-year-old secure a massive payday beyond 2024.
On Monday, Justin Jefferson signed a four-year, $140 million extension making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. The massive deal could give Lamb and the Cowboys a framework for their negotiations.
Josina Anderson wrote that talks are expected to ramp up since Jefferson’s salary provides a baseline. Like the Minnesota Vikings star, Lamb has three Pro Bowls and one All-Pro nod in four sensational seasons.
Since they entered the league in 2020, Lamb and Jefferson respectively rank fifth and sixth in receptions. Yet Jefferson has more yards (5,899) than Lamb (5,145) despite playing six fewer games.
Per ESPN’s Todd Archer, the Cowboys aren’t concerned about Lamb’s absence affecting his performance to start the season. The star wideout has held throwing sessions with quarterback Dak Prescott, who is expected to attend minicamp despite also entering a contract year.
