Barring some kind of modification to his contract in the coming weeks, Dak Prescott will most likely have to be released by the Dallas Cowboys in 2025 just so the team can be compliant with roster rules. But Cowboys owner and de facto general manager Jerry Jones seems confident that that won’t be an issue.
According to ESPN Cowboys insider Todd Archer, Jones told him that he doesn’t believe 2024 will be Dak’s final year with the Cowboys. How he plans to make sure that’s the case is anyone’s guess though.
“Jerry Jones said he is not thinking this could be Dak Prescott’s final year with the Cowboys,” Archer wrote.

Dak’s contract has a $40 million cap hit in 2025 and will count for over 15-percent of the projected cap that year, per OverTheCap. The Cowboys have to do something about his contract in order to pay everyone else who is up for a new deal next year.
Dallas are currently in a bit of a hold pattern with star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, who is also seeking a new contract and will be sorely missed if he doesn’t participate in training camp.
There are a lot of moving parts in Dallas right now and Jerry Jones is going to have to make some very tough decisions if he wants to keep the players he loves the most.
