Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is entering the final year of his contract with lots of uncertainty about his future.
Prescott is in line to make $29 million in salary with a $5 million restructure bonus in 2024. His cap hit is more than $55 million.
As for what a new deal might look like for the three-time Pro Bowler, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said Tuesday that Prescott’s yearly salary could begin with the number six.
“Wouldn’t be surprised if maybe it’s a little bit of a shorter deal,” Rapoport said. “I know the fact that people have mentioned the number 60, as in $60 million per year. The fact that that’s not crazy is based on where he is, what the numbers have been, the type of leverage he has. This could be the kind of contract we’re talking about, but the clock is ticking, of course, to training camp.”

With Dallas’ inability to trade or franchise Prescott, the veteran signal caller holds plenty of leverage over his employer.
“It is on the Dallas Cowboys right now if they’re going to do this,” Rapoport said. “If they’re going to avoid Dak Prescott going into the final year of his deal, like Mike McCarthy is, it is time for them to start talking and try to get a new contract done.”
Prescott, who turns 31 later this month, briefly addressed his contract situation while speaking with reporters at his youth football camp in Texas this week.
“There’s been conversations back and forth. But for the most part, I’m gonna let my agent do that, especially as we get right here into training camp,” he said. “Day one of training camp, my mind flips to obviously helping my team and doing everything I can within the organization and on the football field to make sure I’m my best and everyone around me is their best.
“The money and all that will take care of itself, as it always has.”
