When Ezekiel Elliott returned to the Dallas Cowboys he knew it wouldn’t be as the team’s bell cow back. And the veteran RB seems to be embracing his new role as a complementary piece to Dallas’ ground game.
Asked on Wednesday what he envisions the Cowboys’ running back by committee looking like in 2024, Zeke said: “Shoot, I don’t know exactly what it looks like, but we’ll see. I love football. I’m going to do whatever it takes for me, that I need to do, to help this team win. Whatever that is.”
The former All-Pro added that he still sees himself as a starting RB but knows that at this point in his career it may be better to pick his spots.
“I still view myself as a starter in this league,” Elliott continued. “But also I’ve got to take care of my body and make sure I’m fresh for when it matters. What’s that going to look like? I’m not necessarily sure, but we’ll figure it out.”
Zeke started out with one of the best four-year stretches you’ll see out of a running back first breaking into the league. However, his yards per game have steadily declined with each passing season.
With that said he’s still among the most reliable RBs in the NFL when it comes to pass protection and in short-yardage situations he almost always finds a way to fall forwards.
Either way it’ll be great to see the former fourth overall pick back wearing a star on his helmet and toting the rock at AT&T.
