Here is our latest Dallas Cowboys mailbag.
Every week, we take questions on X (Twitter) and Facebook about Dallas Cowboys players and other issues surrounding the team. So let’s get right into it.
“If Mike McCarthy is staying, are we making any changes to the offensive coaching staff?”
(Riley Braggington on Facebook)
Mike: They should. Let’s take the play-calling off McCarthy and let him survey the entire game. Get a smart, young offensive coordinator to call the plays and let McCarthy play overseer on the whole game. This will help with bad time management and timeout calls as well as keep a consistent flow to the offense. As for other coaching staff, it’s time to move on from Mike Solari. This offensive line was one of the most feared units in the league and in the last two years things have really regressed. We see issues with rookies development and utilization, all signs point to Solari’s time being done.
Dana: I agree with everything Mike said. Ideally, the new offensive coordinator would be the one calling the plays but I don’t see Mike McCarthy giving up that role since taking it back from Kellen Moore. Whoever the offensive coordinator is, I would love them to get more creative in using players like KaVontae Turpin and Deuce Vaughn and highlighting their strengths (if both of those players are on the roster next year). As for the offensive line, unfortunately there are just about the same amount of questions surrounding them as last offseason. They’ve got to do a better job in ensuring the best players are at the right positions and developing the younger players on the line.
“What position are you tempted to use two picks on in this draft?”
(@Androvian70 on Twitter)
Mike: It has to be defensive tackle. This draft has plenty in stock which is the good news, let’s just hope the front office doesn’t pass that opportunity by. On the opposite side the same could be true for the offensive line. There could be a very good left tackle available with the first pick then in Day 2 there’s some interesting guard prospects that could fit a possible vacant right guard spot.
Dana: DT is a very good answer to this question but like I mentioned above, there are still many open questions about this offensive line. Is Tyler Guyton going to stay at LT? Is Zack Martin going to play another season? Did Terence Steele do enough at the end of the season to feel confident about the RT position moving forward? Depending on the answer to these questions, I could easily see the Cowboys picking more than one OT or G in this year’s draft.
“So now the season is over who do you guys want to win the Super Bowl?”
(Andrew Fraiser on Facebook)
Mike: This feels like a Detroit season. They look strong and confident, and most importantly they keep peaking as a team as they get into the playoffs. A good fight could happen if Buffalo can get past Kansas City and we see a Lions versus Bills Super Bowl. That could be a great clash to end the season.
Dana: My answer is going to be the least popular answer but I am sticking with the Kansas City Chiefs to do it for the third year in a row. I have a great amount of gratitude towards them as they have saved us from an Eagles Super Bowl win and a 49ers Super Bowl win in back-to-back years. They deserve a third for that alone. Although, as long as it isn’t the Eagles, Commanders or Packers, I will be happy.
