This week against the Eagles is going to be… something.
The Dallas Cowboys go into this Week 10 matchup with their division rival, the Philadelphia Eagles, with really nothing to play for after last week’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons. With Dak Prescott sidelined multiple weeks with a hamstring injury and their dreams of reaching the postseason basically squashed, Dallas needs to start looking towards the future.
Each and every game from here on out should be utilized as a tool to help further evaluate the entirety of this roster to get a better understanding of exactly what their offseason needs are for 2025. With that in mind, we put together a few matchups we want to see this week against the Eagles that could have an impact building the roster for the future. We know we are not likely to get these changes, but it is what the Cowboys should be doing.
QB Trey Lance vs. Eagles’ defense
There is absolutely no reason why the Cowboys shouldn’t give QB Trey Lance a chance to prove what he’s capable of as a starter with Dak Prescott sidelined for the foreseeable future. He’s shown flashes of what he can do with both his arm and legs in the past, but as of yet never been unable to find the consistency required to be an every day starter in the league. This could be an early audition to see if he’s QB2 material for next season or if the Cowboys should look elsewhere in the offseason.
OT Asim Richards vs. Eagles’ pass rush
Whether it’s for Tyler Guyton who exited last week’s game against Atlanta with a neck injury or as a replacement for an underwhelming Terence Steele, Dallas should get Asim Richards on the field this week against the Eagles. They need to figure out the depth at OT for the future and it starts with Richards, especially with Steele as a potential salary-cap casualty. Could he potentially be the future starting RT for Dallas or is he better utilized as a swing tackle? Understanding where he fits in future plans could eliminate an offseason “need”.
S Juanyeh Thomas/Markquese Bell vs. Jalen Hurts and Company
Not only have Donovan Wilson and Malik Hooker drastically underperformed so far this year, but both could end up being salary-cap casualties after the season as well. That means safety could be a top priority for the Cowboys either in free agency or in the 2025 NFL Draft unless they are ready have both of their replacements already on the roster. A lot of fans have been hankering to see what Juanyeh Thomas and Markquese Bell in a more prominent role and this week against the Eagles provides a perfect opportunity to find out.
