The Dallas Cowboys are going to be without one of their tight ends for OTAs.
According to Michael Gehlken, tight end Luke Schoonmaker is battling a hamstring injury, and it’s expected to sideline him through OTAs this week.
He continues to be banged up to start his NFL career after missing the 2023 rookie spring with a foot injury. He then had shoulder surgery this offseason before this hamstring issue popped up.
“Cowboys TE Luke Schoonmaker has a hamstring injury that is expected to sideline him throughout OTAs. He underwent shoulder surgery this offseason,” Gehlken wrote on X. “Hamstring now what is keeping him off field. He missed his 2023 rookie spring with foot injury.”
Schoonmaker finished the 2023 season with eight receptions for 65 yards and two touchdowns. The Cowboys are hoping he gives them better numbers for this season since they picked him in the second round of last year’s NFL Draft.
Right now, he’s listed as second on the tight end depth chart behind Jake Ferguson. If he can get healthy heading into training camp, there’s a chance he’ll see way more than the 15 targets that he got in 2023.
The Cowboys are coming off another disappointing season in 2023 after losing in the wild-card round of the playoffs against the Green Bay Packers.
