Trevon Diggs appeared to respond to a perceived snub in ESPN’s preseason cornerback rankings.
On Thursday, ESPN revealed its top 10 cornerbacks entering the 2024 NFL season. They formulated the list by polling league executives, coaches, and scouts.
Neither Diggs nor Dallas Cowboys teammate DaRon Bland made the cut. Denver Broncos star Pat Surtain II garnered the top spot ahead of Denzel Ward, Sauce Gardner, L’Jarius Sneed, and Jalen Ramsey.
Diggs posted a cryptic one-word message that afternoon on social media.
The two-time Pro Bowler also responded “No bs” to Micah Parsons adding, “I don’t think players should be the only ones getting drug tested.”
Diggs returned two of 11 interceptions for touchdowns as an All-Pro in 2021. But according to Pro Football Focus, he allowed a a 99.4 passer rating in coverage the following season.
More importantly to his seclusion, Diggs tore his ACL two weeks into the 2023 season. An anonymous AFC executive expressed uncertainty about where to rank the 25-year-old after that serious injury.
“He was hard to place because of the health issue, but he’s still one of the best ball hawks and he’s tried to play more disciplined in recent years,” the executive said.
If the “comical” comment was even referring to ESPN’s list, Diggs may also be disgruntled on Bland’s behalf. After all, PFF gave him the second-highest grade (90.4) of all cornerbacks during an All-Pro season in which he returned an NFL-record five picks for touchdowns.
Regardless of their preseason rankings, a healthy Diggs could give Dallas one of the league’s fiercest cornerback duos in 2024.
