The Cowboys have reportedly put in a request to interview former staffer Kellen Moore.
It was inevitable.
On Thursday it was reported that the Dallas Cowboys have put in a request to interview Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore for their head coaching vacancy. Obviously Moore served on the Cowboys staff for a long time after playing for the team.
It always stood to reason that the Cowboys were going to want to talk to Moore for their head coach position. He grew up with the Cowboys and after his playing days concluded following the 2017 season, he became the team’s quarterbacks coach. One year later he was promoted to offensive coordinator, a role he maintained through the head coach transition from Jason Garrett to Mike McCarthy before the team ultimately moved on after the 2022 season.
Since then Moore has spent a year with both the Los Angeles Chargers and now Philadelphia Eagles. The former did not go well as the Chargers cleaned house following his lone year there, but the latter has been much better with the Eagles set to play in the Divisional Round on Sunday afternoon. Philadelphia fans have still taken some issue with Moore and his play-calling, but we all know how fickle they can be.
It goes without saying that Moore’s days of commanding the Cowboys offense were incredibly successful for the most part, obviously not in the playoffs. There are a lot of pros to the idea of him as the team’s head coach, even if it would be awkward for his quarterback and backup (if Cooper Rush were to return) to both be players who beat him out and pushed him into the very profession of coaching in the first place.
We will see how this turns out. If the Eagles lose on Sunday (hopefully they do in general) things could happen quickly here.
Update: 11:29am ET
For clarity’s sake… if the Cowboys do not land an interview with Kellen Moore before the Eagles play and if Philadelphia were to win on Sunday, then Dallas would have to wait to talk to him until after the Eagles are eliminated from the playoffs in general.
Eagles OC Kellen Moore has been requested by the Cowboys, source confirms—he’s slated to interview for the Jaguars job tomorrow, and the Saints job on Saturday. If Dallas doesn’t get him in during this window, they’d have to wait until after Philly is eliminated.

Although right after this report came out it was noted by Adam Schefter that the Cowboys are expected to interview Kellen sometime this weekend.

That’s that.
