Like most national sports shows, Colin Cowherd spends an excessive amount of time dissecting the Dallas Cowboys. But he’s tired of contract talks regarding Dak Prescott and their other stars.
On Wednesday’s show, Cowherd complained about his producers feeding him stories related to CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons seeking new deals. The star wideout is skipping mandatory minicamp before his contract year, and Parsons skipped voluntary activities for other reasons.
Cowherd is sick of talking about Cowboys stars and money. He noted that there was no noise about Travis Kelce’s contract until the Kansas City Chiefs extended him this offseason.
“I feel like I’ve been in an eight-year cycle of Dak contract talks,” Cowherd declared.
He likened the Cowboys contract discourse to a wealthy person flaunting a Rolex and yacht to make sure everyone knows they’re rich.
“I swear, all I’ve heard this offseason: ‘I want mine,'” Cowherd claimed of the Cowboys. “I didn’t hear it with New England in 20 years. I know [Patrick] Mahomes makes a lot of money; he doesn’t throw it in anybody’s face. I feel like that’s all we talked about with Dak forever.”
That assessment doesn’t seem fair to Prescott, who is probably just as tired of everybody discussing his contract situation.
The Cowboys quarterback isn’t the one putting the issue into the spotlight with public demands. Instead, he’s quietly participated in offseason workouts despite his future uncertainty.
Cowherd (and all other sports pundits) aren’t giving Prescott’s contract more attention because he’s constantly supplying controversial soundbites. It’s just because he plays quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys.
If there’s anyone capable of altering the discourse, it’s the host of a nationally televised sports show. Cowherd could probably tell his producers he doesn’t want to parse through every Cowboys contract rumor on a regular basis without fear of getting replaced on “The Herd with Colin Cowherd.”
