The Kansas City Chiefs or New Orleans Saints may sign Dallas Cowboys potential cut candidate, Peyton Hendershot this upcoming season. According to a report, America’s team may be moving on from one of the young athletes who’s already at the end of the rope. However, it would make sense that the Cowboys are bringing back Jake Ferguson, Luke Schoonmaker and John Stephens as their main core group for tight ends while Hendershot is fighting for a spot. After signing with the Cowboys in 2022, he was able to impress when winning the blocks against other defensive players and that’s what won him the job to sustain the pressure for Dak Prescott.
According to Pro Football Reference, Prescott was only able to target him 16 times as a rookie and only caught 11 passes for 103 yards and touchdowns in 2022. It was a solid start for a rookie but Ferguson and former tight end Dalton Schultz were in front of him so he didn’t receive many snaps after that. To no fault of his own, he took a huge step back this past season so it may be time for him to a different team. Stephens is a rising prospect that may be pushing out Hendershot so the Cowboys may want to see what he could provide, especially during this year’s preseason.
The good news is that Hendershot shouldn’t dwell if he’s cut since there are teams like the Chiefs looking for depth at tight end. Kansas City could be adding one more weapon to help accommodate Travis Kelce and a surprising Ben Sinnot. The Saints need a tight end since Juwan Johnson isn’t starting anytime soon and he’s going to be out with injury for a long time. The last thing they need is Taysom Hill to take over.

Other Potential Destinations
Carolina Panthers
The Panthers’ offense is a lock this upcoming season with wideouts Adam Thielen and Diontae Johnson while adding a new running back from this year’s draft. Carolina should probably continue stacking talent for cheap even if it’s at the tight end position. They should give Bryce Young many weapons so he can prove that he can have a better campaign this year than last season. While Ja’Tavion Sanders has been impressive at training camp in time for the pre-season, they could use some insurance.
The Panthers have been dealing with a string of injuries including three tight ends behind Sanders and wide receiver Xavier Legette. Hendershot may not get the starting position over Sanders but being in the same rotation would probably allow him to get more snaps. He hasn’t been able to get that opportunity in Dallas so he might as well rebuild in Carolina.
Los Angeles Chargers
Tight end isn’t the biggest need where the wide receiver position doesn’t look promising for Justin Herbert. However, Jim Harbaugh wants a strong running game but that doesn’t happen if you don’t have extra run-block protection. Hayden Hurst, Will Dissly and Hendershot sound like a powerhouse of additional support that could have guys like J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards run all over the place. Herbert may not have the top receivers like Mike Williams or Keenan Allen anymore but he may be able to give this offense a chance by establishing more play-action plays and a solid running game.
Baltimore Ravens
Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely may be the tight-end dangerous duo that everyone could look forward to. It may be time for Hendershot to move on to a championship team to re-establish his value under Lamar Jackson’s wing. He could join that duo and step in as a No. 3 weapon if they need some insurance or an extra blocker for the run game.
