Dak Prescott will likely be facing one of the biggest challenges of his career in 2024. He’s simultaneously coming off his best regular season and worst postseason of his career and scheduled to hit free agency in roughly eight months. Not one to shy away from a challenge, Prescott is ready to bet on himself. It just so happens the Cowboys aren’t doing him any favors.
The Dallas front office largely opted out of the offseason. At a time most contending teams are aggressively trying to upgrade, Dallas was needlessly pinching pennies trying to convince anyone that would listen it was the smart thing to do and because of that, Prescott is once again being asked to do more with less.
Their miserly approach saw far more pieces walk out the door than in. It left multiple question marks across the roster and put added weight onto the shoulders of the various disgruntled veterans.
The offensive line went through a cost-cutting rebuild that seemingly replaced the left tackle and center with rookies. The defensive line lost massive depth within the rotation and running back fell into a troubled state. Aside from linebacker, it’s hard to make the case the Cowboys improved anywhere on the roster, placing a significant onus on Prescott to carry the team.
If Prescott wants to have any success he’s going to need, at the bare minimum, these five players to step up in 2024.
