Boy, oh boy, did the Cowboys need this one. Coming off their worst two-game stretch in recent memory and looking a possible 1-3 record in the face, Dallas needed to get out of MetLife Stadium with a win in Week 4. They did just that, hanging on for a 20-15 victory over the NFC East rival Giants and instilling a sliver of hope in the process.
Penalties made the game nearly unwatchable. It’s likely anyone without a vested interest in the two teams tuned out. The NFL apparently adjusted the penalty sensitivity rating for the game too high, making it a stoppage-infested flag fest, chock full of extended officiating conferences and other momentum killing moments. In all there were 15 penalties on the night with 11 of those calls going against the Cowboys.
The Cowboys had to dig deep into their reserves to field a cornerback opposite Trevon Diggs. Caelen Carson was ruled out before the game and DaRon Bland is already on IR. Andrew Booth and Amani Oruwariye gave it their all on the boundary but neither appears to be the answer. Luckily Carson is expected back for Week 5 and Bland’s return isn’t far behind. Here’s a collection of takeaways from Thursday’s victory.
