Free agency is a time when NFL teams can upgrade their roster, fill holes and add depth by way of proven veteran talent. Football’s original transfer portal is one of the most newsworthy events of the NFL offseason. It’s a time pretenders become contenders and general hope is restored to fanbases across the league.
For the Cowboys, free agency has become a time to sit back and look for bargains. Dallas’ top decision makers prefer to build solely through the draft and only look for proven veterans if the opportunity is just right. For the most part, the Cowboys played free agency exactly how everyone expected. They sat out the process for the better part of the offseason and invested very little along the way. When they finally did test the waters of free agency, they took extremely modest swings.
Less than two months until training camp, time is running out for the Cowboys to make a splash in free agency. With nearly all decent options dried up, finding someone won’t be easy. But it won’t be impossible either.
